July 2022 Newsletter

We’re enjoying seeing all of you hiking, biking, and enjoying our beautiful property this summer. Here’s the latest news!

UPDATE YOUR INFO IN SKI CLUB PRO

Registration for returning Full and Limited Access Members (from 2021-2022 season) begins September 19.  Prior to registration, please complete the on-boarding process on our new Ski Club Pro platform. Sign in and update your household information at https://blackhawk.skiclubpro.team, the sooner, the better!

Keep your parking pass! We update with annual stickers, so don’t throw away the plastic original pass.  It’s like a license plate, just add a sticker each year!

Prime the Pump Fundraiser Continues

We need YOU!  If you haven’t already donated to the Prime the Pump campaign, now is the time. Efficient snowmaking impacts all of our winter programs directly, and all of our programs and memberships indirectly – running a more efficient snowmaking operation allows more funds for other things at the club.

So if you haven’t given yet, please consider a summer donation.  [Insert link to donate here]. Electric setup for the pump far exceeded our estimates, and we welcome any amount towards getting the pump up and running for the 2022-2023 season! Questions or interested in volunteering? Please let us know: Board@blackhawkskiclub.org

Blackhawk Ski Patrol Celebrates Ken Matusek and Don Wylie’s Contributions

The Blackhawk Ski Patrol hosted a celebration of Ken Matusek and Don Wylie’s 30-year contributions to the club. Ken retired this year after 30 years leading the Ski Patrol, and Don Wylie has volunteered at the club for 30 years, as well. While they will both continue to serve at the club, we enjoyed marking this milestone and expressing our appreciation. Congratulations, Ken and Don, and thank you for your many years of service! You are both true Blackhawk Ski Club LEGENDS.

Run the Hawk and Trail Improvements

Join us August 27 for the first annual running event at Blackhawk this summer. Run the Hawk includes team and individual ultra runs, a fun run, a beer tent, and all kinds of other fun, too!  Blackhawk members receive a discounted entry (nearly equal to the cost of a mtn bike/hike membership!). Use your email address associated with your Blackhawk account to receive the discount.

Learn more about the event here: https://runsignup.com/race/wi/Middleton/driftlessendurancetrailchallenge

Hope to see you at the event!

Thanks to Rickey Chernik and Pat Remington for leveling the perimeter hiking and running trail that runs along Blackhawk Rd. in preparation for the run and for hikers and runners! If you would like to volunteer to maintain hiking trails , please contact Jill Stevenson at jill.stevenson@ blackhawkskiclub.org. No experience necessary.

Volunteers Needed!

As you well know, volunteers keep our club running in all seasons. We need volunteer mowers, trimmers, and folks to provide general help with odds and ends! Please contact us to learn more about more volunteer trail opportunities! Board@blackhawkskiclub.org

Try Letterboxing at Blackhawk

Letterboxing is a treasure hunt of sorts. There are ten boxes hidden on club property that contain fun facts and offer a great way to explore. Each letterbox houses a hand-carved rubber stamp and a small journal. Members use directions found at the Otter Den to find the boxes. When you find a box, use your own stamp and ink pad to mark the box journal (you can also add a comment/date/name, etc.) and use the box’s stamp to record your visit in your own journal.
