Nordic Skiing

The area has about 5-km of cross country ski trails (see map). The trails in the southeast corner of the property run back and forth through a stand of 40-year old white pines. The trail in the southwest corner runs around theedge of the beginning ski area and then along a creek on the northern edge of the property. Getting from the east to the west side requires climbing a steep hill next to the road or along the east edge of the property. Even when there is no snow on the ground in southern Wisconsin, cross country skiers can ski on the man-made snow on the club’s four western and two eastern slopes and a 1 km connector trail..

Nordic Programs

High School Racing
This program will be geared at training athletes for competition and will meet 4 to 5 days per week and attend races including the State Championships and regional races. The cost of races and travel is not included in the program cost. First year participants can try the program to December 15th with out paying the fee but must be a Blackhawk Member. Some equipment is available for use, but purchase of equipment is recommended. When conditions are favorable practices may be held at other local Nordic trails in the Madison area.

Silver Ski /Biathlon
This program has grown from what was the MadNorSki SilverSki program and the Blackhawk Biathlon program in 2003-2004. This year the programs will be combined and geared at pre high school youth that are interested in cross-country ski racing.  First year participants can try the program to December 15th with out paying the fee but must be a Blackhawk Member. Participants should have some previous experience and skills at cross country skiing and it is recommended they have their own ski equipment. Biathlon shooting is optional in this program. We will meet rain (snow) or shine. Air rifles are used on a 10–meter biathlon range. All participants are taught first and foremost safety when shooting air rifles. Participants will meet 2 nights per week.

Introduction/ Kidski
This year Blackhawk and MadNorSki are combining their youth programs to get more kids on snow. This program focuses on getting kids started or becoming more proficient at cross-country skiing. In the past this program has had participants from the age of 4 through 12. The real goal of this program is to encourage kids to learn how to have fun on Nordic Skis. Parents are encouraged to help out or may be asked to participate with their children under the age of 6. This program will also include an optional introduction to Nordic combined and Biathlon Participants have the option of attending one or two days a week.

Nordic Combined
This program will be geared at getting youth to start cross-country skiing and jumping. Children can use down hill equipment to start jumping and cross-country equipment will be available for use at the sessions. For participants in the Blackhawk Jumping program there will be no additional fee. Participants that want to start jumping will start on a 15-meter jump with the jumping coaches and assistants.
