We have an exciting new program at Blackhawk we want to share with you!

This summer we are offering member’s children, ages 6+, the opportunity to join our Youth Mountain Biking Team. All skill levels welcome!! The program allows children, with any non-road specific bike, the opportunity to get instruction on off road biking in group atmosphere. Each session lasts 6 weeks, with classes once a week for an hour.

The first session starts Thursday, June 6th, at 6:00pm, so log on to your account at the Blackhawk Ski Club web page and sign up soon! We wouldn’t want you to miss out.

If you have any friends who aren’t members who would be interested in this program, remember there is a summer membership option at Blackhawk that would allow their children the opportunity to partake in the fun as well!

Chances of rain are pretty low Wednesday (5/1) and the range should be pretty dry.  I’ll be out by 6:30 with an extra rifle and club ammo.  This weekend has a strong chance of rain, but hopefully next weekend is better.

- Our purpose and mission is to provide an environment where young people can learn lifelong, outdoor sports. Blackhawk accomplishes this by supporting youth in the sports of Nordic and Alpine skiing, as well as other winter and summer Olympic sporting activities. Additional support of this mission includes developing and improving facilities, sponsoring competitions, offering instruction, and promoting these sports in Madison and the surrounding areas.

In an economic environment where many not-for-profits, charities and private clubs are challenged to avoid membership declines, service cuts and financial losses, Blackhawk Ski Club remains healthy and on solid footing.

The membership of Blackhawk Ski Club can be proud of the work we have done over the years to continue to meet our goals in fulfilling our mission statement. A special thanks must go out to the scores of volunteers at Blackhawk. Blackhawk could not survive without the countless hours of work donated by our members, board members, program directors, coaching staff and others to make Blackhawk the best kept secret in the Madison Area.

At the annual Board of Directors and Membership meeting on April 15th, Blackhawk Treasurer, John Oswald, will go into greater detail about the club’s financial health.

It is important to note that Blackhawk carries no long-term debt. Our fixed assets consist mostly of leasehold improvements to our equipment, tows, snow-making capabilities and to our chalets.

We have had great success, but there will be challenges as we continue to preserve and enhance the traditions that have carried Blackhawk since 1947. The most pressing issue that we must address is the condition of the West Chalet. It is because of its declining condition and our desire to enhance our facilities and extend our outreach capabilities that we must endeavor through our capital campaign to raise sufficient funds to replace the West Chalet. If you have not already done so, I would ask that you consider making a donation to the West Chalet Capital Campaign Fund.

I would encourage each member to help keep the spirit and mission of Blackhawk alive and to think of ways that you can become more active in this goal.

I hope to see as many members at the annual meeting on Monday as possible. If you are unable to attend the annual meeting and need any additional information I would encourage you to reach out to any of board members.

A beautiful sunny day of fun and games for the kids! Pete’s famous BBQ, scavenger hunt and 3 legged races! Limited edition Club apparel was sold along with Chalet fundraiser Q & A.

Thanks to everyone that came out to support and pitched in to make it a happen.

Conditions were cold but the skiing was fast as Blackhawk hosted the first  series event of the year.
