Mission

Blackhawk Ski Club has a mission to teach young people life-long competitive, outdoor sports. These sports include: alpine skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding, cross country skiing, biathlon, Nordic combined, and mountain biking. Our club is incorporated as a non-stock, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization located in the Town of Middleton, Wisconsin, immediately west of Madison. We are a group of families and single members who thoroughly enjoy outdoor sports.

Founded by Ski Jumpers

Our club was founded in 1947 when a group of ski jumpers purchased thirty acres of land west of Madison to build a large ski jump. They had been using Muir Knoll on the University of Wisconsin campus to ski jump, but the campus location was getting crowded as more people were returning from World War II and wanting to jump. Soon after the initial purchase, these jumpers purchased an additional thirty acres.

Location, Land, Facilities, Equipment

Our address is 10222 Blackhawk Road (West Chalet) and 10118 Blackhawk Road (East Chalet). Each side has a gate.

On our sixty acres of land, we have downhill and cross country ski trails, ski jumps on our five jumps, a new biathlon facility that includes a 10 pt range,  and  five miles of mountain bike trails. We have an active Ski Patrol that is affiliated with the National Ski Patrol System to promote safe skiing. Over the years, we have built facilities and acquired maintenance equipment, including two heated chalets, snowmaking equipment, and machines to keep the slopes well groomed.

Active Participation and Volunteerism

The club has thrived because of the active participation and volunteerism of our members. We do not have employees, and we operate primarily with volunteer guidance and help. We are open for members only, and we limit our family memberships so that our facilities are not overcrowded. Our unlimited family membership offers great skiing and mountain biking right here in the Madison area. There are no additional fees or daily use charges for open skiing; there *are* additional fees for optional programs, including youth programs and ski instruction.

We welcome members to participate in our club right from the beginning. Whatever is happening in our club, we make it happen! Please join us.

Blackhawk Ski Club is a registered 501(c)3 organization. Donations are tax deductible.
